About the campsite

Behind the Dunes is a pop-up campsite in Soulac-Sur-Mer, where you can sleep right by the coast on one of the best surf beaches in France. Here, you can take surf lessons for beginners or advanced surfers, taught by our own experienced instructors.

You can plan your week however you like. In the afternoon, you’ll be on the beach in just a few moments, ready to surf, relax, or play beach volleyball. In the evening, you can hang out at our cozy beach bar or enjoy the sunset from your own comfortable lodge.

Surf lessons & equipment

Learn to surf at one of the best spots in France! The lessons are taught by certified Dutch or English-speaking surf instructors, taking into account your current level and experience.

Need to cool off? The heated outdoor pool is always ready for a dip or a relaxing afternoon on one of the sun loungers.

Is Behind the Dunes a campsite?

Yes, Behind the Dunes is a campsite.

At the beginning of 2026, we took over Camping Les Sables d’Argent and we are gradually changing the name to Behind the Dunes.

It’s our vision to create the most beautiful surf village on the Atlantic coast here. A place of freedom and creativity where everyone feels at home.

Who is Behind the Dunes for?

If you want to stay comfortably by the coast or learn to surf at one of the best surf spots in France, then Behind the Dunes is for you!

As a camping guest, you can really make your own plans. Are you looking for more of a group concept where you can easily meet other guests? Then check out our surf camps at the campsite.

Can I work remotely at Behind the Dunes?

Yes, it is possible to work remotely at Behind the Dunes. In fact, several companies come to our campsite specifically for a workaway with their colleagues.

Especially the Safari lodges and Beach Lodges are great for remote work. At the campsite, you can use our Wi-Fi or connect to 5G through your own hotspot.

Are kids welcome at Behind the Dunes?

Children of all ages are warmly welcomed, as long as they are accompanied by an adult.

During school holidays, we organize a surf camp at the campsite specifically for families.

Outside of school holidays, we mainly see families with younger children who are not yet of school age.

We do not provide camping cribs, so we ask that you bring your own if needed.

What time can I check in and out?

Check-in is available from 2:00 PM at the reception. On the day of departure, you need to check out by 10:00 AM.

How do I get to Behind the Dunes?

The address is 39 Bd de l’Amélie, 33780 Soulac-sur-Mer, France.

The campsite is generally still listed as Camping Les Sables d’Argent. We took over this campsite in early 2026 and are gradually changing the name to Behind the Dunes.

Including stops, expect a travel time of about 11 to 14 hours from the Netherlands & Belgium.

Can I park for free?

Yes, you can park for free at the campsite.

What about bed linens?

The accommodations are equipped with duvets and pillows. You'll need to bring your own bed linen and towels. Each lodge is furnished with one double bed for the parent(s) and several beds for the children.

How are the sanitary facilities?

Most lodges have their own private bathrooms. Additionally, there is a well-maintained sanitation building at the campsite with hot showers, toilets, and sinks.

Can I book two weeks at Behind the Dunes?

Yes, you definitely can! When you come for two weeks to Behind the Dunes, you can stay in the same accommodation. We offer a €100 discount for the second week. If you’ve booked for two weeks, just send us an email so we can apply the discount to your booking.

What are the Superflex cancellation policies?

These terms are available for anyone who booked early. You can use them to move your trip to another date within the same season (subject to availability) or cancel free of charge until May 15, 2026.
